The St Kilda Beach Hotel $4 lunch menu + review

$4 lunch menu

We decided to head out to the St Kilda Beach Hotel for lunch recently, followed by an afternoon at the St Kilda Adventure Playground, and discovered the hotel running a $4 special lunch menu.  The menu is available Monday to Friday between 12 and 2pm.  We have just visited for the second time in recent weeks, and the $4 menu is still running.  I’m not sure how long the promotion will run for, but it is proving very popular, with tables in the restaurant area very close to being full by about 1pm; I highly suggest aiming to arrive around 12pm when it is still fairly quiet to get your pick of tables.  The menu seems to change slightly, but the beer battered flathead with chips and salad was on the menu both times.  The servings are not massive (see the image below), but more than enough for a lunch meal, and taste great, definitely worth far more than $4.

I first discovered the St Kilda Beach Hotel through the Entertainment Book, and have been going back every so often over the last few years.  It’s a surprisingly busy hotel considering it’s location.  The downstairs dining area of the hotel isn’t huge, but there are enough tables that I haven’t had any issues with turning up without a table booking.  We did visit the St Kilda Hotel for dinner in summer and the upstairs dining area was open, which is usually reserved for functions.  If you have the option to sit upstairs I definitely recommend it, the views are amazing from up there.

The hotel advertises itself as family friendly, but it doesn’t really offer a huge amount for kids other than a standard kids menu and a few games machines, which do require money to play.  The fact that the St Kilda playground is within walking distance is definitely a plus.  While it’s not expected that every dining venue has a kids playground (even though we think they are the best invention ever, we always try to choose venues with a playground when eating out), perhaps a kids activity pack with the kids meals would work well.  Many other restaurants we have visited offer these, with a small pack of crayons, stickers, activity sheets etc, and they are fantastic for keeping kids busy while you eat.

The menu contains fairly standard pub meals, perhaps with a bit more of a focus on seafood.  The prices are great, and the food is really enjoyable, especially the seafood.
