Nutella Microwave Mug Cake

Sometimes you just get that craving for something sweet, and you don’t want to wait around for a cake to bake in the oven for half an hour or so.  Mug cakes are perfect for these times, you just put everything in a mug, and in around 1-3 minutes (depending on how powerful your microwave is) you have a cake, ready to eat.

Mug cakes are best eaten warm straight out of the microwave, and are best slightly undercooked rather than overcooked, so they have a slightly fudgy centre.  If you overcook they do tend to go a little dry.  Experiment with your microwave to see how long you need to cook your mug cakes for.

Nutella Microwave Mug Cake

Nutella Mug Cake


  • 4 tablespoons self raising flour
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons Nutella
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter


Mix the flour, cocoa and sugar in a large mug until combined. Add the remaining ingredients and stir until well combined and the mixture is smooth.
Cook the mixture in 1 very large mug, or two or more smaller mugs. Microwave for between 1-3 minutes, depending on your microwave and the size of the mugs used.
Serve on it's own, or with cream.
