This Mango and Strawberry Layer Smoothie reminds me of long, hot summer days. It’s a thick and super cold smoothie, thanks to the frozen fruit, that will cool you down even on the hottest of days! Despite the fact that it contains two layers, the first mango followed by strawberry, it’s actually very simple and easy to make. Because it uses frozen mango and strawberry, it also a smoothies you can make all year round!
While I used fresh bananas in this recipe you could also use frozen bananas, which would make an extra thick and frozen smoothie. Freezing bananas is a great way to avoid wasting bananas that are about to be thrown out. Just peel and roughly chop the bananas, then freeze in a freezer bag. These are then perfect for smoothies straight out of the freezer, and can also be defrosted to use in baking, such as our Double Chocolate Banana Bread.
To start, make the mango layer which contains only 3 ingredients; 1 banana, 1 cup of frozen mango chunks and 1/4 cup orange juice. Blend it all together and pour into your serving glasses, before rinsing out your blender and starting on the second layer. For the strawberry layer, blend together 1 cup of frozen strawberries, 1 banana, 1/4 cup yoghurt and 1/4 cup milk. Pour the strawberry smoothie over the mango layer, then pop in a pretty straw and serve!
This recipe make four smaller or two larger servings. If you love this smoothie, give our Berry Yoghurt Ice Blocks a go, a huge hit with kids and great alternative to shop bought versions.
