How to find the best hotel deals
Along with flights, accommodation is one of the biggest expenses when it comes to holidays; spend a few weeks away and your hotel bill will add up very quickly. To help you save as much as possible on accommodation, we have put together this guide to show you exactly how to find the best hotel deals. A little time spent researching could save you thousands of dollars, so it’s time well spent! After all who doesn’t want a gorgeous hotel room at a bargain price?
1. Use hotel aggregate websites
The first step when searching for a hotel deal should be using a hotel aggregate website, such as Hotels Combined and Trivago. You simply search the destination, dates and number of people traveling and these sites will bring up a list of the hotels in that location, along with the best available rates from each booking website. The best rate may be available directly from the hotel, or it may be via another hotel booking site. These types of website can be a great way to get a feel of the prices in your destination.
2. Check reviews on TripAdvisor
Once you think you may have narrowed your search down to a few hotels check the reviews for those hotels on TripAdvisor. Being such a popular review site, there are thousands of reviews for each hotel so you can get an idea of what the hotel is actually like pretty quickly. The last thing you want is to end up disappointed and feeling as though you have wasted your money once you arrive at your hotel.
3. Research the location
There is nothing worse than arriving at your destination to find your hotel is in the middle of nowhere. I like to use Google maps to find the location of the hotel, and get a bit of an idea of what’s surrounding it. You can use the ‘directions’ function to find out how long it would take to walk, drive or use public transport to get to attractions in the area. You will often pay a little more for a hotel in a good location, but it is worth it if you can walk to the local attractions, you have shops and restaurants nearby and are within walking distance of public transport. It can save you serious amounts of money if you don’t need to rely on taxis every time you want to leave your room.
4. Check the hotel facilities
Hotels all differ in the facilities they offer. This is something that depends on your needs, but if you will be hiring a car, check that the hotel offers parking, and if they do that it is free or reasonably priced. Also check out the availability of a gym, swimming pool and restaurants if this is something you use.
5. Find the best price
Once you have determined exactly where you want to stay, it’s time to find the absolute best deal on that hotel. There are a number of sites you can use, and we have listed a few to get you started:
Be sure to also check the hotels official website, sometime hotels aim to offer the cheapest price by booking direct, and some will even beat and other available price.
6. Check for coupon codes
The final the before booking that room! Once you have found the best deal, do a quick Google search for any coupon codes currently offered by that hotel or booking site. You may find you can get a discount on that already amazing hotel deal.
