Everyone loves banana bread, but this Double Chocolate Banana Bread takes it to the next level. It tastes like banana bread, mixed in with the taste of chocolate and the occasional hit of chocolate chips. I used dark chocolate chips for a more intense flavour, but you can use any flavour you like.
This banana bread is fantastic served both warm or cold, and can even be frozen. Either freeze the loaf uncut, or cut into individual slices before freezing. These individual slices will then be perfect for lunchboxes, just pop a slice in the lunchbox still frozen, and it will be defrosted and ready to at by lunch time.

Double Chocolate Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 2 large, ripe bananas
- 75g melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 brown sugar
- 1 1/4 cups plain flour
- 1 teaspoon bi carb soda
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180c. Line a loaf tin with baking paper.
In a large bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. Add the melted butter, egg and vanilla extract and whisk until combined. Add the brown sugar and mix well to remove any lumps.
In another bowl, combine the flour, bi carb soda and cocoa powder, then add to the wet mixture and mix until just combined. Stir through the chocolate chips.
Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf tin and bake for 50 minutes, or until cooked through.
Allow to cool in tin for 10 minutes before removing. Serve warm or cold.

[…] While I used fresh bananas in this recipe you could also use frozen bananas, which would make an extra thick and frozen smoothie. Freezing bananas is a great way to avoid wasting bananas that are about to be thrown out. Just peel and roughly chop the bananas, then freeze in a freezer bag. These are then perfect for smoothies straight out of the freezer, and can also be defrosted to use in baking, such as our Double Chocolate Banana Bread. […]
