Day 26 – Get free stuff
Who doesn’t love getting something for free? Getting something for free can brighten up any day, not to mention the money savings that go along with it. There are endless ways to get things for free if you know where to look, and that’s exactly what today will help you with. Before you start freebie hunting, keep in mind that just because you can get something for free, it doesn’t mean that you should. There is little point asking for freebies if you know there is not a chance you will actually use it, and you don’t really want to end up cluttering your house with things just because they are free.
It’s worth keeping an eye on Amazon, who very often offer ebooks for free, or otherwise a very low price such as $0.99. Free titles regularly change, and are available in a range of categories. You can use the Kindle app to read your Amazon freebies on tablets, phones and even on your laptop or desktop computer.
On your birthday
If there is any one day of the year that’s best for scoring freebies, it’s without a doubt your birthday. A massive number of stores and restaurants offer freebies or discounts either on your birthday or the weeks surrounding your birthday. Take a look at our birthday freebies list for some ideas.
Do a quick Google search for free samples and you will find endless samples for nothing. Some people also have a lot of luck emailing companies and requesting samples, the worst they can do is say no. We also list samples on Bargain Mums, like this list of free Australian baby samples.
Gifts with purchase
While I don’t recommend buying things you don’t actually need just for the free gift they come with, gifts with purchase can be a great way to get something for nothing if it’s something you would have been purchasing anyway. My absolute favourite gift with purchase are the Priceline goody bags that are generally released 3 times per year. These include a hair care bag, skin care bag and make up bag. To qualify you spend $69 on products from participating brands, and you then receive a large bag packed full with $200-$300 worth of product. I stock up on products I need anyway to qualify for these bags, and then generally end up with enough products including the inclusions in the free bag to last me a year, until the next goody bag is released the following year.
Gumtree, Freecycle and Facebook
People will often give away perfectly good things just because they don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling them. Join sites like Freecycle, search the free sections of local classified website like Gumtree, or join local giveaway groups on Facebook.
