Caramelised Onions

Caramelised onions are so delicious and versatile, but can take quite a while to make. This recipe is a much quicker and easier version, but the end result is just as delicious.

Caramelised onions are traditionally simply onions cooked with a little butter for 45 to 60 minutes until they are super soft and jam like. This recipe cooks the onions for a shorter time, with the addition of a little balsamic vinegar and brown sugar.

Caramelised Onions

These caramelised onions are a quick and easy cheats version of the classic recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 onions, peeled, halved and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  1. Heat the butter in frying pan over a medium heat. Cook the onions for 5 minutes, or until softened.
  2. Add the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar to the onions and cook, stirring occassionaly, for a further 5 minutes or until sticky and caramelised.

Notes

These onions can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
